The Story
It's all started with the idea of the founder, a Balinese guy, to gentrified the Balinese Calendar. Pretty simple reason: computer was a common things nowadays. The existance of a Balinese calendar app would ease the Balinese people, as the modern living were also affecting them. It's also our passion to conserve our beloved country heritage with our abilities in Information Technology. The idea was not the first where some online sites such as www.kalenderbali.org, www.babadbali.com, and ayubali.awardspace.com have been providing online Balinese calendar. But we decided for a diffferent path, by making a desktop app. It make sense while the internet infrastructure isn't very good in Indonesia, despite of its number of internet users. We designed the app in the end of 2010.

Balinese Calendar
What is so special in Balinese calendar anyway? For a simple description, it's a lunar-solar-aritmethic based calendar, because it was using lunar-moon cycle, and math in its calculation. In Balinese socio-cultural life, the calendar plays a very important rule. It helps people in choosing the right date and time for specific rituals and ceremony. Back in the old days, the first commercial compilation of the calendar system was made by I Kt. Bangbang Gde Rawi (Alm) in 1960. Though some years have passed, this compiled calendar system still lack on innovations. The guidance (ala ayuning dewasa) in the calendar system still full of agrarian life guidance, which may obsolete in current modern living. Well, we are not an astrology-experts anyway, but we're still hoping that our opinion may inspire the balinese astrology (wariga) experts to improve the calendar system.

We thank Mr. I.B. Putra Manik Aryana, SS., M.Si with his book titled "Tenung Wariga - Kunci Ramalan Astrologi Bali" and Mr. I.B. Suparta Ardhana dalam bukunya yang berjudul "Pokok-Pokok Wariga". The BalaBali Kalender was also tested and compared with three online Balinese calendar sites:  www.babadbali.com, www.kalenderbali.org, and ayubali.awardspace.com. Great thanks for the sites-maker.
Features
BalaBali Kalender packed with some features that also existed in the common printed Balinese calendar, such as:

• Calculation of wewaran, pawukon (wuku), ingkel, jejepan, pewatekan madya dan alit, eka jala rsi, lintang, pancasuda, pengarasan, rakam, and zodiac.
• Calculation of penanggal/panglong, and sasih.
• Calculation of ala ayuning dewasa (the good and bad aspect of days).
• Calculation of baya oton (ruwatan).

with also some modern features:

• Event Maintenance : search, add, edit, and deletion of event with some parameters (Gregorian date, Sasih date, wewaran, wuku, etc).
• Eye Catching Effects : with some cool transition effects.
• BalaBali PuniaWall : our program to appreciate our donors by giving them a testimonials space, that accessible by clicking the PuniaWall button in BalaBali Kalender.
• Documentation and Tutorial Video.
• 3 platform release: Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac OS X, dan Linux.
